Chiropractic Care

For over 125 years chiropractic has been helping people of all ages. Without drugs or surgery. Even with countless delighted patients, chiropractic is still misunderstood. Here’s how we explain chiropractic to our newest patients.

Chiropractic is based on a simple scientific fact. Your nervous system controls and regulates every cell of your body. Interference to nerve messages between brain and body can cause tissues to malfunction.

The moving bones of your spinal are a common cause of nerve interference. We call these vertebral subluxations. Vertebral, meaning of the spine. And subluxations, meaning less than a dislocation.

Sometimes they produce pain, numbness or tingling. Other times they don’t. Drugs can’t restore the proper motion and position of misaligned spinal bones. But a chiropractic adjustment can.

The Adjustment

Dr. Garrett will use his hands or a small hand instrument. A light, quick thrust will coax wayward spinal vertebrae into proper alignment. Adjustments feel great. (If they didn’t our patients wouldn’t return.) Repeated visits are needed to retrain and strengthen the spine.

As spinal integrity improves, symptoms usually subside and health is restored.

Dr. Garrett chooses from a variety of adjusting techniques. He chooses the best one based on your spinal problem, age, condition and preference.

Palmer Package – This is a hybrid of the most effective adjusting methods. It’s taught at Palmer College of Chiropractic, the birthplace of chiropractic.

Diversified – A precise thrust is administered to misaligned spinal bones. Sometimes this produces a sound as gas and fluids shift in the joint. While interesting, the sound has little meaning.

Gonstead – Mid-back subluxations are corrected in a kneeling position. The objective is to restore your spine without twisting or rotating your neck.

Activator Methods – This employs a handheld, spring-loaded instrument. It delivers a consistent, predictable and repeatable low-force thrust. We often use the Activator with our youngest and oldest patients.

Webster Technique – This approach reduces sacral and SI joint dysfunction. We often use this approach with expectant mothers during their last trimester. It improves the neuro-biomechanical function of the pelvis.
